BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Postgraduate Diploma in Technology Management is an introductory course into the field of technology management and serves as prerequisite for further studies in the area of technology innovation, policy and enterprise studies. It helps students to have better understanding of the work environment especially in the application or science and technology to solve developmental challenges.
The programmes will also provide further training for scientists and engineers who intend to be technology managers in industries, public and private research and development (R&D) organisations and other government agencies involved in the Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) system. It exposes students to current practices in the field through intensive course work and provides opportunities for students to write independent essays on the topics of practical concern to their businesses or organizations.
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
The programme is designed to:
i. develop in students a critical understanding of how Science, Technology and Innovation can be harnessed for sustainable economic development at business and national levels,
ii. enable students to develop technology strategy and link this with the business strategy or overall national development,
iii. equip students with a set of skills that would be required to create and implement innovation and technology-based change in the various functions of their organisations.
iv. exempt those who undergoes the PGD in technology management from some courses in the Masters of Technology Management.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
The criteria for admission into PGD Technology Management are as follow:
1. Possess a minimum of five ‘O’ level credit passes in NECO/WAEC/NABTEB or its equivalent for international students which must include English, Mathematics and any other (three) relevant science subjects (Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Agricultural Science, Economics, Geography, Computer and Entrepreneurship) at no more than two sittings.
2. Possess National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate or NYSC exemption certificate (Nigerians only).
3. A minimum of third class (Hons) degree or a minimum of pass in HND.
PROGRAMME DURATION
The part time PGD Technology Management shall run for a minimum of 2 semesters and a maximum of 4 semesters.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
1. Candidates are expected to be successfully acquire a minimum of 28 credit units made up of 24 units of core courses, 2 units for internship/industrial work experience and 2 units of long essay.
2. Long essay in the area of specialization is also a requirement and the candidate is required to pass an oral defense of the long essay for graduation.
COURSE STRUCTURE
The PGD Tech programme is run by course work (made up of core courses), internship/industrial work experience and long essay. To qualify for the award of PGD Tech Mgt degree, the candidate must pass all courses, making a total of 28 credit units (inclusive of long essay).
